BEC - Bio Entrepreneurship Core
The BEC is a group of Washington University, Saint Louis students, post doctoral fellows and staff dedicated to informing the community,
forming relationships with the local biotechnology industry and fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship that will result in exciting new
collaborations.

Dr. Aline Holtz, Assoc. Dir. Corporate Relations at WashU, FLTC214 - November_5th_2008 The seminar will cover topics ranging from how researchers can obtain funding from private foundations and corporations to her personal journey from a bench scientist to the current position.
Dr. Jim McCarter, MD/PhD, WashU MSTP alumnus, Founder, President, and CSO of Divergence, Inc., 5-6pm Connor Auditorium - October_23rd_2008 Dr. McCarter will be returning to the BEC to speak about the founding and progress of his company, Divergence, Inc. Divergence was founded in 1999 to sequence the genomes of parasitic nematodes in order to find and develop new drug targets to selectively kill them. Come learn how a WashU MD/PhD alumnus (and the founder of the Young Scientist Program) has translated his training into a successful startup company. This event is jointly sponsored by the BEC and the WashU Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP).
